Recently I just went to sell charity tickets. Obviously for the CIP hours. Even though they say that CIP hours are not counted anymore and there is no fixed number of hours, you are still expected to do it because you would certainly want more written in your testimonial.
Tell me, would anyone be so willing to stand for hours, smiling like an idiot, and watch half the Singaporeans ignore you when you ask them if they'd donate.
Even when you're standing there innocently, people shun you like you're magnets with similar poles.

There was once BF and I were standing pretty close to each other. I asked a woman with her daughter to donate, she rejected. When she continued walking, BF, not knowing that I had approached her already, went up to her and asked her to donate. And she actually pointed to my direction and said "donate already".
It's very dishearteninng when 1 out of 10 people you ask buys a $2 ticket from you. You have to face 9 people who either ignore you, lie to you, reject you, question your purpose repeatedly, before you finally meet one who buys the ticket.
Even though foreigners were the minority present, at least half of the tickets were bought by them. So obviously, approach the foreigners though it's not always they donate. They may still reject you, but probably still recognise your existence. I think only 1 Caucasian ignored me.
Unfortunately I'm not one of those who would willingly spend hours walking around town asking people to buy charity tickets for the needy. I'd rather do my part spending that few hours working and then giving a portion of my pay to the needy.
If you're one of those who rejects a person who is asking you to donate even before he finishes his sentence, stop it.
"Hi sir, would you like-" *gets waved off*
It's just rude. At least wait for the person to finish.
I also find it irritating when people give you fake smiles because...err...it's just disgusting and it's like you're patronising me. Guilty smiles are okay because it's only right to feel slightly guilty for being stingy.
Conclusion: Given the chance, I'd never do this again to get CIP hours.
